ANNOUNCEMENT

Between 2012 and 2024, Riurau Film Festival developed as an international short-film event across Dénia, Xàbia/Jávea and Jesús Pobre on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Its open-air screenings gave the festival a strong relationship with place, using riuraus and other local venues as settings for international short fiction and regional film culture.

The 2024 fiction competition accepted films under twenty minutes and focused on live-action narrative work, while the wider programme also made room for sections connected with social diversity, regional identity and environmental or rural concerns. Riurau Express added a rapid-production element, encouraging filmmakers to create within a tighter local framework.

For filmmakers, the historical Riurau model combined the discipline of the short form with a festival experience rooted in outdoor exhibition, community audiences and the cultural landscape of the Marina Alta.
