FESTIVAL STRATEGY & FILM POSITIONING
A tailored strategy based on the film’s format, genre, current position and objectives.
Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival is an annual Greek short-film event founded in 2007 and organised by the nonprofit Kyklos. It presents Greek and international short films alongside audiovisual events and other film-culture activities.
OPEN CALL
Founded in 2007 and organised in Greece by the nonprofit Kyklos, Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival is built around discovering and presenting short-form work from Greece and abroad. Its wider activity also includes audiovisual events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions, placing the competition programme inside a broader short-film culture and industry context.
The current call is for the festival’s 19th edition in 2027. The submission structure includes a main International Competition and several subject- or format-specific routes.
The final deadline for the International Competition and the listed international specialised sections is 8 March 2027. The current organiser-controlled submission listing gives 22 May 2027 as the notification date.
The National Competition follows its own deadline path for Greek productions.
The International Competition accepts fiction, documentary, animation and experimental short films up to 40 minutes. Under the current 2027 rules, films considered for the international competition must have been completed after January 2026. Previous Psarokokalo submission history is part of eligibility review for each film.
Films in languages other than English require English subtitles. The competition focuses on artistic and cultural work across short-form cinema.
Alongside the main International Competition, the 2027 submission system lists separate routes for Architecture & Design, Environment, Human Rights, Music Video and Gastronomy Documentary. Category choice is therefore part of the submission strategy, with subject and form helping determine the most appropriate programming context.
For films with a strong environmental, architecture/design or human-rights focus, the specialised route can provide a more precise programme context. The current 2027 listing places the final deadline for these international routes on 8 March 2027.
The current rules require two film stills, one director photograph, an original-language dialogue list or transcript with an English translation, and an uploaded preview video file. The requested film stills should be prepared as dedicated film images.
The preview file must remain accessible through the selection process, so the screener, subtitles, credits and core film information should be checked before the entry is finalised.
Films submitted for festival consideration are also listed in the Psarokokalo Short Film Market catalogue. The current Market regulations describe a secure video-library extension available to referenced industry delegates for nine months.
The credited film contact and sales agent can access viewing-track information and contact details for professionals who watched the film through the Market’s Pro tools, and one free accreditation is granted to a representative of each film. This adds an industry-facing layer to the submission.
Official selection carries a firm commitment to the festival programme. Current technical rules call for an unencrypted DCP together with a QuickTime 1080p version, with H.264 or ProRes 422 delivery options described by the festival. Selected filmmakers should follow the festival’s direct current delivery instructions for the final schedule.
The festival may also use promotional excerpts from selected films, limited to 10% of the running time and three minutes.
For Psarokokalo, the practical checks are category fit, the 40-minute maximum, completion date, previous Psarokokalo submission history, English-subtitle readiness and a complete application package. Market visibility and the commitment attached to official selection should also be understood before submitting.
For Psarokokalo, AD1 FILM can review the short film’s category, 40-minute limit and previous-entry history, then prepare subtitles and materials for both festival and market presentation.
