FESTIVAL STRATEGY & FILM POSITIONING
A tailored strategy based on the film’s format, genre, current position and objectives.
Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival is an annual Greek short-film event founded in 2007 and organised by Athens-based nonprofit Kyklos. It presents Greek and international short films alongside audiovisual events and other film-culture activities.
SUBMISSIONS CLOSED / FESTIVAL UPCOMING
The Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival has officially opened its call for entries for its 2027 edition. Held in Athens, Greece, and organized by the Kyklos non-profit organization, the festival continues its mission to showcase innovative short-form storytelling from around the world. Psarokokalo offers a strong platform for emerging directors and is currently accepting a wide range of short films across both general and highly specialized thematic categories.
For the 2027 cycle, the festival is accepting short fiction, documentary, animation, experimental works, and music videos. In addition to its core International and National Competitions, Psarokokalo features dedicated category routes for films exploring Architecture & Design, Environment, Human Rights, and a special competition for Gastronomy Documentaries. This structure allows filmmakers with thematic works to target audiences and juries specifically interested in those subjects.
To be eligible, short films generally must run no longer than 40 minutes and must have been completed after January 2026. The programming committee gives priority to works completed within the 12 months prior to screening. Non-English language films are required to provide English subtitles. When applying, filmmakers must provide a preview screener, two film stills, and a photograph of the director. Industrial or commercial films are not accepted, and works previously submitted to Psarokokalo—even in newly revised cuts—will not be considered.
If a film is officially selected, the director will be asked to deliver unencrypted DCP and QuickTime 1080p or ProRes 422 files for presentation. Once selected and notified (notifications are expected by May 22, 2027), films cannot be withdrawn from the programme. The festival requires that digital assets remain accessible to the institute until the conclusion of the event, and participants are responsible for any physical screening copy shipping costs.
