ANNOUNCEMENT
Mostra Animal is a Brazilian film festival dedicated to animal rights and to the cultural, social and environmental questions that emerge from human relationships with other animals. Launched in Curitiba in 2009 and organised by the Brazilian Vegetarian Society, the festival uses cinema as a public forum for debate rather than treating animal issues as a narrow specialist subject.
The call is open to filmmakers at different levels of experience and can include short, medium-length and feature films, provided that the work has a meaningful connection with animal rights or with the ways human behaviour affects other species. Previous editions have combined screenings with discussions and the participation of artists, activists, environmentalists, writers and public figures.
For filmmakers working with ethics, food systems, captivity, wildlife, conservation or interspecies relationships, Mostra Animal offers a clearly focused audience and a programme in which the subject is central to the curatorial identity.
