About Kaboom Animation Festival

Kaboom Animation Festival is a Netherlands-based festival devoted to animation across film, interactive media and immersive forms. Its programme combines screenings with themed programmes, competitions, Expanded Animation and Kaboom Industry Days, bringing creators and animation professionals into the same festival structure.

For filmmakers, that means Kaboom is broader than a conventional animation-film call. The festival also works with games and VR, making project format an important part of deciding how a work fits the programme.

Kaboom Animation Festival 2027 Dates and Deadline

Kaboom Animation Festival 2027 runs from 12–21 March 2027. The current Call for Entries is open for animation films, games and VR projects, with a final deadline of 5 October 2026 at 23:59 CET.

What Can Be Submitted to Kaboom 2027?

The current organiser call names three top-level work types: animation films, games and VR projects. This gives creators a route not only for screen-based animation, but also for interactive and immersive work.

Start with the project’s format: film, game or VR. Then review the current entry form for the specific section and technical requirements, including any running-time limits that apply to the work.

Utrecht, Amsterdam and Kaboom Industry Days

The first six days of the 2027 festival take place in Utrecht, including Kaboom Industry Days. The final four days take place in Amsterdam. Industry Days is Kaboom’s professional platform for networking, knowledge exchange and development across animation, illustration, immersive media and related fields.

This two-city structure places screenings and professional activity side by side, rather than treating the festival only as an exhibition programme.

Kaboom 2027 Selection Notification

According to the current submission area, applicants are expected to receive selection and programming notification in late December 2026.

Positioning a Project for Kaboom

At Kaboom, the first question is not only how long the work is, but what form it takes: an animation film, an interactive game, or a VR / immersive project. AD1 FILM can review the project format, current festival position and available presentation materials, then clarify the most appropriate Kaboom submission route and prepare the project package around that format.
