OPEN CALL
The 15th edition of Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival takes place in Budapest from 27 May to 2 June 2027. The current final submission deadline is 10 December 2026.
Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival brings Hungarian and international short films together in Budapest, combining its main competitions with dedicated genre and thematic routes. The international competitive structure separates live-action fiction and animation from International Documentaries, while specialist categories create additional entry paths for horror, LGBTQ+, Weirdcore and Genre Fever! work.
The 15th edition takes place from 27 May to 2 June 2027. For international filmmakers, the International Competition covers live-action fiction and animation made outside Hungary or directed by a non-Hungarian filmmaker, while International Documentaries are handled in their own competition route. Live-action and documentary films can run up to 40 minutes, while animation films can run up to 20 minutes.
Films should have been completed after January 2025. The festival accepts work from any country and genre, with specialist categories available for films that fit those programme strands. The current final submission deadline is 10 December 2026.
For an international filmmaker, route selection starts with form: live-action fiction and animation enter through the International Competition, while documentary shorts use the International Documentaries route. Horror, LGBTQ+, Weirdcore and Genre Fever! projects also have dedicated specialist categories under the current rules.
AD1 FILM can assess whether a short belongs in Friss Hús’s international fiction, animation, documentary or specialist programme, then prepare its subtitle and screening package for the chosen route.
International Competition covers live-action fiction and animation made entirely outside Hungary or directed by a non-Hungarian filmmaker. International Documentaries is a separate competition route. Specialist categories include Horror, LGBTQ+, Weirdcore and Genre Fever!. DCP is required for selected films.
