About Camera Zizanio

Camera Zizanio is an international meeting and competition for audiovisual work created by children and young people. It has been held in Pyrgos, Greece, since 2001 alongside the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People.

Its programme combines youth-created films with screenings, workshops, collaborative filmmaking and international exchange. Projects may be made individually or collectively through schools, film groups, workshops and educational programmes.

Age Groups and Youth Authorship

Camera Zizanio is built around films created by children and young people up to age 20. Entries are organised by creator age, with youth authorship as the defining condition of the programme.

Across the festival’s published rules, the idea and creative point of view should come from the young participants. Adults may support the process while the young creators retain the project’s authorship and direction.

How Youth-Created Projects Fit Camera Zizanio

Camera Zizanio accepts youth-created work produced individually or collectively through schools, film groups, workshops and educational programmes. Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental approaches can all sit within the festival’s youth audiovisual framework.

The programme is designed around projects that remain recognisably the creative work of the young participants.

Youth Jury and Open Window to the World

Camera Zizanio also involves young people in film evaluation through youth judging committees supported by experienced coordinators. Youth participation extends across making, watching, discussing and judging films.

Through Open Window to the World, Camera Zizanio can also propose youth-created films to other festivals and related activities after consultation with the filmmaker or responsible contact.

Presenting a youth-made film to Camera Zizanio

For Camera Zizanio, AD1 FILM can prepare the young filmmaker’s credits, permissions, subtitles and screener, and help present the work in the appropriate youth programme.
